Puri is a deep fried flat bread which is popular is three countries,

The Puri can also be referred to as,

  • Puri
  • Poori
  • Boori

The flat bread is ideal for vegetarians and is consumed by people in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh as a breakfast snack or a snack between meals.

Some bread meals in the West have a religious significance, such as the Hot Cross Burn. Likewise the Puri can have a religious significance in the East.

The Puri is often offered during religious ceremonies or as Prasad. Prasad means a religious offering to a deity in the Hindu religion of India.

The Puri is made in India from Atta and formed into a dough. Atta is a whole wheat flour which is a hard grain. In Pakistan, they often use Maida flour instead.

Both types of Puri are deep fried in vegetable oil or ghee. Ghee is a more popular option, and for the uninitiated, Ghee is a type of clarified butter.
